Litchfield County Real Estate. Are you trying to sell your southern Litchfield County home on a wing and a prayer? I hope not!
I am a phrase nut, I love to know their origin, and I certainly love to use them. There are a few you are not going to hear from us when we are selling your home in southern Litchfield County.
A wing and a prayer"". This phrase probably originated during WWII, in the movie The Flying Tigers. John Wayne says: "Any word on that flight yet?" The hotel clerk answers: "Yes sir, it was attacked and fired on by Japanese aircraft. She's coming in on one wing and a prayer."
The meaning, according to The Phrase Finder is "In poor condition, but just managing to get the job done."
Nope, we are not using that expression. We do not "just manage to get the job done." We don't throw something on the MLS with mediocre photos, we don't plant the sign in the yard and go home and pray it sells. We are proud of the work we do and work hard at it!
Another one we are not using when we sell real estate is "winging it". Actually this phrase concerns actors who are learning their lines at the last minute, in the wings. That is something we never do. We have researched the market, we know the market, we are ahead of most in internet marketing and we utilize tools that do the job. We are not scrambling at the last minute to try and placate our sellers.
Of course you can always resort to the St. Joseph method of selling real estate. The kits run about $9, some companies even offer free shipping! I found one online this morning that offers a muslin tote bag AND a plastic burial bag! It is a relatively simple process. I make no statement for or against St. Joseph and his ability to make a sale. I know many that have done this. I do not have the statistics handy to know if it really works.
- Bury the statue upside down in the ground, facing the home for sale.
- For the next 9 days you must pray the St. Joseph Novena
- When the home sells it is very important that the statue be removed, then placed in a place of honor in the new home.
I know of one person who did this and FORGOT to dig the statue up. She was too embarrassed to tell the new owners, so she watched and waited until they left the house, came back and dug it up.
Hey, I am not saying it doesn't work. I am saying we don't rely on the St. Joseph method of real estate. The SPA team is a bit less ethereal about our work than that. We have our own system of selling that includes a pricing strategy and intensive, sophisticated marketing. You get the idea. You can read about the 5 "P"'s of selling your home here.
Pricing strategy, preparation, patience, prolific marketing and pliability. Note that we haven't included on a wing and a prayer or winging it in our plan to sell your home. And of course if you want to include St. Joseph, who am I to argue that one?
A word of advice, if you need to sell your home, just don't do it on a wing and a prayer. We don't!
