Bridgewater Country Fair 2010, Bridgewater, CT, Let the fun begin!

I wait every year for the Bridgewater Country Fair, with the end of lazy summer days nipping at our heels, Labor Day looming large in front of us, the Bridgewater Country Fair is a great way to celebrate summer, to enjoy a real country fair with animals, tractor pulls, rides, great food and tons of things to buy!
This years fair will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 20, 21 & 22, 2010. The fair kicks off with the famous annual Bridgewater Fair Parade on Friday, August 20th at 6:45 pm. Many volunteer fire communities from Connecticut and New York will strut their stuff down the quiet main street of Bridgewater, CT. Very impressive I might add. I love the parade, all the firemen decked out in their uniforms, it makes one proud of the many many men and woman who make up the volunteer fire departments throughout Connecticut and New York. These people put their lives on the line for us, in addition to their "real" jobs, for no monetary compensation. Cheering them on as they march in the parade is my way of saying "thank you", and gives me goosebumps every time I see them marching. True heroes, each and every one of them.
A true agricultural country fair, their will be oxen pulls (my favorite), animal judging contests from chickens to rabbits, cows galore (which will put me on cloud nine), antique tractor pulls, baked good contests, garden exhibits, vegetable and fruit exhibits, photography and more! Check out the shows and contests here. Last year I got a few great shots of some oxen I happen to know, those boys are pretty impressive I have to say.
For the kids there is a pedal tractor pull, open to all under 10. Those little guys and gals sure do work hard getting the pedal tractors to the finish line. I get a real charge out of watching the future farmers and farmettes peddling their hearts out. Another great event is the Hot Dog Pig Races. I just know my grandson will squeal with delight right along with the pigs!

The Bridgewater Country Fair is sponsored by the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department. Come on by and have some real old fashioned country fun in Bridgewater, CT on August 20, 21 & 22. See you there!
