Happy 4th of July from New Milford, CT!

Happy 4th of July from New Milford, CT!

The SizzlerThe fireworks last night went off with a bang, (sorry) they were spectacular! My family enjoyed the carnival, the great food, the fireworks, all a fantastic way to celebrate the 4th of July in New Milford, CT. The town gathered together downtown yesterday for a fun filled day of good music, wonderful food and the spirit of the 4th of July was everywhere.

"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival.  It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more." - John Adams to his wife Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776.

Please do be careful as we are now in a heat wave and a dry spell. Remember the grass is dry and can burn quickly. Keep extra water with you, wear a hat and light colored, loose fitting clothing and most of all ENJOY THE DAY!

Real Estate and More, New Milford, CT. A Perfect Day!

Real Estate and More, New Milford, CT. A Perfect Day!

Antique Bridgewater CTI went today to help out an associate (and dear friend) from my office today. He has an antique home listed for sale in Bridgewater and I have been dying to post about it. So today I drove over to take some photos for my post, anyone that has been reading my blog knows how much I love antiques, so stay tuned. I got some great photos and am putting all the information together.

I came home over Ridge Road, and oh what a view. I have to say, this is some beautiful town I live in! The cornfields have been planted, some of the hay lots are mowed, waiting to be baled in the next day or two. The smell is fanstastic.

Ridge Road is up fairly high, behind my house is over 1000 feet above sea level. You can see Washington, Roxbury, Bridgewater and way beyond. Wait until the fireworks on the fourth of July! I sit on top of the hill and see fireworks forever in the distance.

Today the clouds looked like you could reach up and touch them, puffy patches of cotton floating lazily by. The contrast of the brilliant blue sky, the fluffy white clouds and the green hills of Litchfield County gave me the perfect photo op.

I stopped by Harris Hill Farm to take a picture. In the fall the field will be full of corn, and the kids will be having a great time finding their way through the corn maze. But for now, I will take this eye candy!

Happy Memorial Day from New Milford CT

Happy Memorial Day from New Milford CT

We went to the parade this morning in New Milford, CT. Despite the rather warm temperatures, everything was perfect. A rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, the veterans walked proudly down Main Street, the bands played perfectly, it was a wonderful day!

Memorial Day always makes me a little misty eyed. We gather in the best way I know to honor those who gave their lives for us, from the Civil War to our latest casualty's in the Middle East. How do you really say thank you? Well, I think this is certainly the best way we know how, a celebration to remember the lives that were cut too short.

To all the families and friends of ones who died in service to our country, I hope you know how much we all appreciate the ultimate sacrifice that was made for us. My thoughts and prayers are with you today, and always.

HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE MEMORIAL DAY!

New Milford, CT, more bridges over the Housatonic River.

New Milford, CT, more bridges over the Housatonic River.

Lovers Leap Bridge, New Milford CT

Lovers Leap Bridge in New Milford, CT has been lovingly restored and is a part of Lovers Leap State Park. Although the bridge spans the Housatonic River, in this area the river is also known as Lake Lillinonah. The bridge was also known as Falls Bridge. The bridge is a metal pinned lenticular through truss bridge, constructed in 1895 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company of East Berlin, CT.

Housatonic River New Milford CTLovers Leap Bridge is 173 feet long, with a roadway width of 19 feet. I am unable to stand on the bridge, many people do pass over it on foot to view the water below. I have a bit of a problem with heights, and this bridge is high enough to prevent me from walking on it! Although the bridge is beautiful to behold, and is a significant historical landmark, a review done by Historic Bridges.org criticizes the way the bridge was restored. As a matter of fact they call it a rehabilitation and not a restoration. For instance, the original railings were removed and new ones made to mimic the old.

Lovers Leap State Park New Milford CTDespite the criticisms of the rehabilitation of Lovers Leap Bridge in New Milford, CT, it is eye candy to all who drive Lovers Leap State Park. If you are in the area and looking for an easy walk through through time, stop by and enjoy!

If you are looking for a home along the Housatonic River in New Milford, CT, give me a call at 203.460.1775. I would love to discuss what homes are on the market and help you find the river front home of your dreams.

VFW Poppies, Memorial Day and Flanders Field, the U.S and Canada stand as brother and sister.

VFW Poppies, Memorial Day and Flanders Field, the U.S and Canada stand as brother and sister.

I learn something new every day. While writing a post about Memorial Day events in New Milford, CT I somehow ran across the VFW Buddy Poppy. Which of course, led me to more and more.

Those ever present, well knows poppies sold by the VFW outside of grocery stores and shops all over the United States. We know them, we pay for them, we wear them, we have grown so used to them. But why poppies? We can thank Lt Col John McCrae of Canada, and his poem "In Flanders Field", written for fallen friend and comrade, Alexis Helmer. If you have never heard the poem, please take a moment to listen to it. (have a tissue handy)

The first poppies were sold by the VFW to raise money before Memorial Day in 1922. Now referred to as the VFW's Buddy Poppy Program, the money raised provides financial support to state and national veteran's rehabilitation services and other programs. You can read about it here.

I can remember seeing these "Buddy Poppy's" all my life, and yet never knew where they came from, or why the poppy was used. Now when I see the vets selling these I will be sure to buy them and wear them proudly this Memorial Day and always.

VFW Poppies, Memorial Day and Flanders Field, the U.S and Canada stand as brother and sister.

Real estate agent out and about in New Milford, CT, checking out foreclosures

Real estate agent out and about in New Milford, CT, checking out foreclosures. I went out in New Milford, CT to check out two foreclosures today. Both just hit the market. The first was an antique on the Washington, CT border of New Milford, CT priced at $280,000. This particular foreclosure in New Milford, CT will need quite a bit of work, but if you love an antique and want something large, then this could be the one. You will have to be up to the task. The house was hard to walk through, the clean out has not been done and it was on the odoriferous side.

I brought my camera with me and took a few shots, I couldn't help myself. I will share two of them with you because honestly, I have never seen anything quite like this.

Fancy toilet

Fancy bathroom

(no way was I touching anything to put this toilet seat lid down... sorry)

The second foreclosure I went to see today is in the Gaylordsville section of New Milford, CT. Nestled in the rolling Connecticut countryside a few of the neighbors came out to say hello to me. This house was in much better shape than the first and didn't have fancy toilets, but oh the price is great at $121,900 and the house is neat and sweet. Besides, how can you resist neighbors like this?

Gaylordsville CT cows

There are foreclosures on the real estate market in New Milford, CT. Most need work, and are not for the faint of heart, but they have the potential to be wonderful homes again in New Milford, CT! If you would like to see these or any other homes that are on the market in New Milford, CT give me a call!

New Milford, CT Town Green, a beautiful Village Center

New Milford, CT Town Green, a beautiful Village Center.

New Milford CT BandstandTown Greens and Connecticut, they go hand in hand. Most towns or cities that still have a "town green" will tell you theirs is the most beautiful in all the state. And I have to agree with that theory. New Milford, CT has a spectacular town green!

Town Greens have historically been for public use. Not uncommon to see cattle or sheep grazing, or a market place for the townspeople, a meeting place to discuss the current town topics, parade grounds for the military. And today? You may not see the cattle or sheep grazing, but you can still find people meeting, New Milford, CT has a Farmers Market on Saturday mornings at the north end of the green, which should begin sometime in May. If you would like more information on the New Milford Farmers Market, try visiting Plow To Plate.

Other wonderful events that the beautiful and historic town green in New Milford, CT will be used for are so varied. From rousing parades to outdoor music in the summer to art shows, Village Fair Days, carol sings and the Hayride on the Green at Christmas time, there is surely something for everyone to enjoy. Or perhaps just sitting on a park bench and enjoying the sights and sounds of our vibrant town center.

New Milford, CT, a wonderful place to live. If you are looking to buy or sell a home in the New Milford, CT area, please give me a call! Here is a representative of the wonderful homes we have to offer.

Slide, swing and run around in the SUN in New Milford, CT.

Slide, swing and run around in the SUN in New Milford, CT. New Milford Town Parks ROCK!

Young's Field Playground New Milford, CT

It was so warm yesterday, my oldest daughter and I packed her new baby and my other 2 year old grandson in the strollers and walked around the town green. I can hardly wait until the trees are budding and the flowers are blooming! From the town green in New Milford, CT we walked down to Young's Field, which was bustling with activity today. So many little ones out on the playground, sliding, swinging, running around. Everyone was enjoying the sunshine and wonderful weather! We met lots of people, saw some pretty impressive dogs and just had a fantastic day all the way around.

Just a stones throw away from the playground at Young's Field in New Milford, CT is the skateboard park, which was also full of kids showing off their skills. Unfortunately for me I wasn't able to watch much of their antics as I had my hands full with a 2 year old determined to slide down the HIGHEST and BIGGEST slide in the park, over and over again! There were a few people playing basketball and soon the tennis courts will be full and the ball fields will be packed with athletes and adoring fans.

New Milford, CT has wonderful recreational areas for everyone to enjoy! From the beaches and boat slips at Lynn Deming Park on Candlewood Lake to the scenic 100 acres at Clatter Valley, wonderful for hiking, picnicking, horseback riding and many other activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

For more information on the wonderful recreational areas available in New Milford, CT check out the Town of New Milford's website. And then get out and enjoy all that New Milford, CT has to offer in the beautiful Litchfield Hills.

New Milford, CT, the gateway to Litchfield County. A wonderful place to live, work and play.

New Milford CT 3 year real estate trends

New Milford CT 3 year real estate trends.  With the start of 2010 it is time to check the yearly market stats for New Milford, CT.  We continue to drop on the amount of homes sold, a very dramatic drop from 2007. The average sale price has also continued to drop over the 3 year period.

New Milford CT Market Watch

Real estate is local, what news you hear about the market improving in one section of the country, while overall is great news, may not apply here YET. Factors such as job availability, unemployment rate, growth factors of each town, city and state have much to do with local markets.

There is good news, we have ended 2009 with a bang, the amount of homes sold in December is up, I will be posting November and December market stats later on today.

New Milford CT Market Watch

What does all of this mean to you, the buyer and seller? Buying now is certainly an option, rates are low, home prices have continued to drop overall. Make sure you have an experienced LOCAL Realtor® who does know the market, who can guide you on the issues that plague today's buyer. Short sale issues, foreclosure issues, helping you to pay a fair market value for a home, etc. If you are selling, you have to be the pick of the litter. Best price considering condition of the home, neighborhood, market conditions.

This is definitely a buyers market in New Milford, CT, no doubt about it.
