Lake Waramaug is the second largest natural lake in Connecticut. A step back in time, the lake retains a beautiful feel to it. Many of the homes appear as they were when New Preston and Lake Waramaug became a popular vacation spot. There is the Lake Waramaug State Park, the Pinnacle which affords a spectacular view, Lake Waramaug Country Club, Hopkins Inn and Hopkins Vineyard, The Boulders, for spectacular dining with lake views and a wonderful place to stay. Many of the homes on the lake are for rent during the summer season.
Lake Waramaug takes its name from Chief Waramaug of the Wyantenoc Tribe. They had hunting grounds and lived primarily in New Milford near what is now called Lovers Leap. They summered at the area around Lake Waramaug. Even they knew back then what a wonderful vacation spot it is!
