New Milford, CT, more bridges over the Housatonic River.

Lovers Leap Bridge in New Milford, CT has been lovingly restored and is a part of Lovers Leap State Park. Although the bridge spans the Housatonic River, in this area the river is also known as Lake Lillinonah. The bridge was also known as Falls Bridge. The bridge is a metal pinned lenticular through truss bridge, constructed in 1895 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company of East Berlin, CT.
Lovers Leap Bridge is 173 feet long, with a roadway width of 19 feet. I am unable to stand on the bridge, many people do pass over it on foot to view the water below. I have a bit of a problem with heights, and this bridge is high enough to prevent me from walking on it! Although the bridge is beautiful to behold, and is a significant historical landmark, a review done by Historic Bridges.org criticizes the way the bridge was restored. As a matter of fact they call it a rehabilitation and not a restoration. For instance, the original railings were removed and new ones made to mimic the old.
Despite the criticisms of the rehabilitation of Lovers Leap Bridge in New Milford, CT, it is eye candy to all who drive Lovers Leap State Park. If you are in the area and looking for an easy walk through through time, stop by and enjoy!

Andrea, that is a cool looking bridge! It is too bad that they don't build bridges as ornate and nice as that one. I too, have a problem with heights, so I would be with you in having difficulties walking across and looking off the side of the bridge.
The first photo should be a jigsaw puzzle -- it's GREAT! Nice use of mapping too!
Cool picture. At least it is not a bridge over troubled waters...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Andrea - I had a hard time reading the post because I was struck by the first photo...I LOVE IT! I have always had a love of bridges. Rehabilitation vs. Restoration....still looks like a wonderful place to visit.
Andrea, Lovers Leap Bridge is so pretty in red! Your photos are beautiful, you really captured the bridge at its best!
Wow! What a gorgeous bridge! Never thought you could ever say that about a bridge, lol.
Tony, it is pretty cool, isn' it? I know I am not alone with the heights thing. I got about 15 steps on to it, then ran like a baby back. :D
Carla, LOL, perhaps it should! Thank you, and the map is Realbird in action.
Michael, LOL, not at the moment.
Amy, it is a beautiful bridge, no matter what. And it is safe, very very important.
Caren, wasn't that the perfect color for it? Thank you.
Jackie, LOL, glad you like it! Thank you so much.
That is such a surreal photo Andrea. The colors look so vibrant. Looking at the picture makes you feel as though you are there!
Bill, I admit that I use HDR for many of my photos, just to give the feeling of being there. Some disagree with doing that, I happen to really like what it does. As you said, makes you feel like you are there! Thank you so much.
Great photo of the bridge (the others, too!). I've been hearing a lot lately about using HDR, I may have to look into that.
Julia, I love using HDR. I think it just makes a photo draw the viewer in! And it makes my work look better too, LOL. Now I am all for that! Thank you!
Your photography has really gotten to the point where you could be making a living with it...if you weren't so good at helping folks in the New Milford, CT area buy and sell homes!
Hi Andrea - What a great post! The area looks like a wonderful place to hang your hat and enjoy nature. The bridge is really cool - nice photos!
Andrea, now that bridge seems to be in a lot better shape than the last one you posted about.
By the way you did a great job on the pictures.
Craig, now that you mention that, I am starting a new venture, not cutting into my real estate time at all though. I will post more later on... Thank you so much!
John, thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed the post and photos.
George, I am sure you have seen this bridge, and thank you so much!
I remember your last post about this bridge. Nice post Andrea! You and I have the same fear!
WOW Andrea, That is one gorgeous bridge, Red and part of Lover's Leap park. Now I am sure the color was not by accident. :-) Stunning colors!
Debra, good memory! Thank you. Sometimes I can overcome it, but not on this bridge, LOL.
Wiliam, thank you! There is of course a story.... as their always is.. of Lovers dying over the falls.
Love the first photo, bridges like that have such great character to them.
JL, thank you! Yes, and they deserve to be saved and enjoyed.
