Bridgewater Country Fair 2010, Bridgewater, CT, Let the fun begin!

Bridgewater Country Fair 2010

I wait every year for the Bridgewater Country Fair, with the end of lazy summer days nipping at our heels, Labor Day looming large in front of us, the Bridgewater Country Fair is a great way to celebrate summer, to enjoy a real country fair with animals, tractor pulls, rides, great food and tons of things to buy!

Bridgewater Country Fair 2010This years fair will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 20, 21 & 22, 2010. The fair kicks off with the famous annual Bridgewater Fair Parade on Friday, August 20th at 6:45 pm. Many volunteer fire communities from Connecticut and New York will strut their stuff down the quiet main street of Bridgewater, CT. Very impressive I might add. I love the parade, all the firemen decked out in their uniforms, it makes one proud of the many many men and woman who make up the volunteer fire departments throughout Connecticut and New York. These people put their lives on the line for us, in addition to their "real" jobs, for no monetary compensation. Cheering them on as they march in the parade is my way of saying "thank you", and gives me goosebumps every time I see them marching. True heroes, each and every one of them.

Bridgewater Country Fair 2010A true agricultural country fair, their will be oxen pulls (my favorite), animal judging contests from chickens to rabbits, cows galore (which will put me on cloud nine), antique tractor pulls, baked good contests, garden exhibits, vegetable and fruit exhibits, photography and more! Check out the shows and contests here. Last year I got a few great shots of some oxen I happen to know, those boys are pretty impressive I have to say.

For the kids there is a pedal tractor pull, open to all under 10. Those little guys and gals sure do work hard getting the pedal tractors to the finish line. I get a real charge out of watching the future farmers and farmettes peddling their hearts out. Another great event is the Hot Dog Pig Races. I just know my grandson will squeal with delight right along with the pigs!

Bridgewater Country Fair 2010

The Bridgewater Country Fair is sponsored by the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department. Come on by and have some real old fashioned country fun in Bridgewater, CT on August 20, 21 & 22. See you there!

We haven't had a local country fair since I was a child.  I actually rode an elephant at one way back when.  I miss it.  Your post made me remember how much.  I think I'll make plans to go to the GA National fair this year.  It's only about 3 hours from my home and I know I'll have a blast.

Tammy, I hope you make it to the fair in GA, I love this fair and it is just a stones throw away from my house. I always look forward to it. And this year, with the grandson being 3, he will have a real blast I bet!!!!

Barbara, thank you, and thank you again, LOL. I love this fair, heck, I love any fair. But this supports the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, a very worth cause.

Andrea...

I love these local events and you have captured the essence with your photos. Our Newnan fair will be late this September!

Richard, thank you so much! I will wait for your photos of the Newnan fair, that is a great time of year for a fair, a bit cooler and crisp air. Or at least here it would be.

I hope to get my ducks in a row to enter a photo or 2 next year at the fair. I missed the deadline. But I will have more photos to choose from next year anyway!

Andrea, I love Fairs.  The Durham and Berlin Fairs will be going on just a bout a month away, and I really enjoy going to them.  Have fun at this one.

Andrea, Oh my does this bring back memories.  I use to show sheep at our county fair back in Wichita Kansas.

Andrea,

What a well written and so interesting localism blog. For me, a city (realtively small) dweller, it is very fascinating read, and your photos make the tour so good.

I bet the Bridgewater Country Fair is a lot of fun Andrea. I hope you have a great time!

George, aren't they a blast? I will be keeping myself very busy at this one. Now that the grandson is of an age to enjoy the fair it will be a whole different story!

Marchel, there were some very impressive sheep there last year, I watched some sheep shearing too. Amazing really. And how am I not surprised at you showing sheep? :D

Jon, thank you so much! This fair accomplishes a few things, raises money for the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department and raises awareness of our agrarian roots. And oh, it gives me a great opportunity to enjoy myself!

William, thank you so much!

Bill, I truly is. There is so much going on there, the food is fantastic, I just love it!

Andrea, this is an excellent localism post.  Very well written, nice pictures and made me wish I could go there!  Alas, it's a long drive from MD...
