Grab your chairs, mark the calendar, come on down to the Village Green in New Milford CT this Memorial Day and watch the parade!
The Annual Memorial Day Parade in New Milford, CT is set for next Monday, May 30, 2011 commencing at 10:00 am. Come and see what small town life is all about and have a great time with the rest of us watching the parade wind through the streets of downtown New Milford. I never tire of the parade, I love to watch the fresh young faces pass by as they proudly march by, or the many area volunteer fire departments as they honor all the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us, gave their lives, so we might live free. The bands, the flags, the servicemen and women who march, all these things make for a wonderful way to remember those who gave all for us. From the civil war to our latest conflicts, these are the bravest of the brave and deserve to be remembered this Memorial Day and every day.
Immediately after the parade head down to Young's Field for some real fun, The New Milford CT Rotary Club will be holding their world famous Great Housatonic Duck Races on the Housatonic River. This year should be especially challenging for all the contestants with all the rain we have had. I know they will be flying down the river at record speed! My duck has been in training since last year where he made a fatal flaw that cost him the race, he spotted a young duckie that threw him right off track. We won't be having a repeat of THAT little mistake this year.
Ever wonder about those poppies sold by the vets? I did, and found out some interesting information last year and wrote a post about it. You can check it out here, Poppies, The USA and Canada stand together as brothers.
Stay safe, eat well and enjoy!
