Out of the mouths of babes...

kids say the funniest thingsDo you remember the Art Linkletter show, "Kids Say the Darnedest Things"? I had my own little version of the Art Linkletter show going on yesterday, I just had to share the story with you.

The house was first on our list of 7 homes. The showing instructions said "Call list office, log in and go". So I did. (I also made a call to the listing agent and left a message, never heard back.) I was told the house was vacant, just go and sell!

The house is a small cottage in a lake community. As I pulled up I realized someone was there. They were unaware of the showing, but as long as we didn't mind the grandkids, 2 boys, 4 and 5 years old, then by all means come in! The boys followed us around the entire time, I tried to keep them occupied when I realized they were not going to let my clients really look at the house. I got to see pirate ships and sailboats, cars and trucks, all sorts of fun things.

Off we went to the other homes on our list. At the end of the tour my client asked if we could go back to the first house again. Sure, no problem! The owners had been so kind before, certainly they would be happy to see us coming back for a second look! I was right, they were thrilled. They answered all sorts of questions my clients and I had, they were VERY helpful!

Again the boys descended on us like stink on poop. Right underfoot, from one room to the next. And this is a very small house, my clients were being so patient and kind to them. Mrs. Client turns to the boys and asks them if they are twins...

With a big smile the older one answers...

WE'RE IRISH TWINS!
irish twins

That sent my clients and myself into a fit of laughter and their grandparents blushing! He continues on...

"Lots of people think we're regular twins, Mommy says we're IRISH TWINS".

Yes indeed, out of the mouths of babes. A perfect Art Linkletter moment!

You are so right - leave it up to the kids. I was at an open  house yesterday and a family with came through. The youngest boy said he really liked the house and if his parents bought it he wanted me to stay. I don't know where that came from but it was a nice compliment.

Hosai, you are welcome!

Anna Banana, it was too funny! It is really such a derogatory term, I was thinking if mom had been there she would have been so embarrassed!

Linda, how cute was that? LOL, kids are so funny!

Richard, they do only know what they hear, and that is what makes it even funnier. That is why Art Linkletter had such a great show!

Gayle, I see you found out!

Tammy, Irish twins in your family huh? LOL.. my grandkids are almost Irish Twins.. :D

Bill & Cyndi, you don't have to be Irish to have Irish twins.. you should google it!

Roger, oh my, I don't know how moms handle that... I am too tired to even think about that, LOL.

Hi, Andrea -- I am dating myself, because I remember that show and enjoyed it.  I also enjoyed Bill Cosby's similar show -- he is always great around children (and both gentleman demonstrated that you don't need to be off color to be very funny and entertaining)

Andrea, that is so cute...I wonder if they knew what that meant! I love what kids say so in my journay that I started when the kids were born, I keep a section called "Look Who's Talking!" Here I go back and read them when I need a laugh!

Cute, Andrea!  My younger brother and I are sort of Irish twins.  I always wished he as a real twin or at least a big brother.  Now I really appreciate him!

Learned something new today.

Never heard about Irish Twins, and glad I wasn't the only one. But how did that description come about? Had to google it and found this

Andrea - I didn't know what Irish twins were either, but I should have put two and two together when you said they were 4 and 5 years old.  I hope your clients weren't Irish!

Posted by Gail Robinson, CRS, GRI, e-PRO Fairfield County, CT (William Raveis Real Estate) over 7 years ago

That's hysterical, Andrea. My Irish family always referred to Irish twins as those born less than NINE months apart. But then again, maybe that's because the local milk man was Irish...

Hi Andrea - When my kids were little I used to interview them as if they were on that show, and I wrote down their answers.  Really funny to read them to my now-grown girls!
