Unwinding... unplugging...

Bridgewater Country FairI have been reading a few posts about taking time off recently. How important it is... unplugging, getting away from it all. Recharging ones self. Turn off your phones, go away on vacation, give your clients to someone else to take care of. It all sounds great... if you can do it.

I don't do vacations well at all. And I certainly don't like to give my clients to others to take care of. I can't bring myself to do it. I don't know why that is, but it is. After 2 days I am ready to climb the walls, I want to be home, working. (Silly me, huh?) What I do pride myself on is being able to take a few moments here, a half a day there... doing something I really love.

Going out to the Bridgewater Country Fair and taking in the sights, now that recharges me! Watching my grandson win a prize, the delight in his eyes. Despite the fact a storm hit while we were there that cut our time short... I still had a magnificant time! Who wouldn't smile when they run into a team of oxen lounging about after a hard days work? Or a Highland cow and her calf, now that's a "make my day" kind of experience.

I will admit, about once a month I take a day and never get dressed. I lay around on the couch, watch really bad movies, barely turn on the computer and just veg. I deserve it.

I mean, look at these little piggies. Now who needs a vacation after that?

Those beasts all look so sweet!  We sometimes get over to the Durham Fair to llok at a certain HUGE black bull...Better to take some time now rather than gasp for it later...we're all going to get real busy real soon!

I have a vacation soon. . Cancun, the beach and yes, my iPad will be next to me working if I don't spill  any margaritas on it. .and since its legal, I wil be buying a few cuban cigars  there.

Come on girl . .we only have one life. .this is not a trial version. . when the end comes . .it comes. . why not enjoy it while you can still kick sand in someone's face. .

Andrea, OMG, this reminds me to post about our State Fair. I took a lot of photos of cattle, pigs, rabbits...and oh the rabbits were just adorable and some were quite BIG.

I don't think who live in a city can find the relaxation you and I can find from a day or half day at home.  I work/operate/ vacation like you and it works for me.  Although I am going to take a couple weeks off this fall... even if it kills me.  We've Got to go visit my husband's family.

Good morning Andrea. I enjoyed your post and your pictures. Each of us does our own thing and yours is as viable as any. I love to travel and it gives me the distance I need to be better at everything. I don't need to control my business and frankly there is less control today than there used to be anyway. Whatever works for you.

Andrea - love the photos.  What did your grandson win a prize for?

And, I'm with you - after a couple of days, I want to get back to being busy.  A few hours here and there are enough for me, usually.

Andrea - I have a hard time going on vacation too. I have nobody to hand my business to (I'm solo) so my vacations are working vacations. I, like you, treasure the moments we have every day when we are not working.

I like your honesty... I have a hard time shuting off too, and like you I take a little time out here and there to enjoy what's around me. Although, back in 2006 I went to the BVI. I was there about 2 hours when I shut all my electronics down and put them away and went sailing for 10 days! I adjusted. It was Heaven.

Andrea, I' m on the same page about vacations.  I get really antsy by the time we hit the Interstate.  I have a road trip to Kansas planned for September, and I'm getting anxious already.  I am so type-A

Andrea, I understand completely what you are saying about vacations, I feel the same way :)

If you love what you do, it is a labor of love. As long as you get those family vacation in, enjoy helping folks, don't let those hammering away about vacation get to you. One week away is not going to stop the world. And you come back refreshed but still thinking about work as you take a cruise, trip. There are vocation people and vacation people. Real estate is a sport, passion and if it is just a job, you won't be pinning on the "R" much longer.

Julia, bovines are my favorite, I just love them. All shapes and sizes! And they make great subjects for photos. I hope to get to a few more country fairs!

Bill, I enjoy what I do. Taking time off in small amounts is enough for me. And if I do go away, my computer has to be with me, and my camera. I feel like I am on assignment, then it is more tolerable, LOL.

Fernando, don't spill anything on that iPad, LOL. We do only live once. I have done some pretty amazing things when I think about it. And sometimes, for me, it is the small things that are the most amazing! Have fun in Cancun!

Michael, after what those beasts pull they deserve to take it easy!

Rebecca, I saw rabbits, chickens, horses, goats, on and on. I love it!

Tammy, perhaps that is it, you make a good point! Love it, don't let those 2 weeks off kill ya, that would be HORRIBLE, LOL. Have fun? Go on assignment, take your camera and blog about it.

Sheila, you are so right, whatever works for you is best. If we don't do what works best for us, it could be a disaster!

Hannah, I do love those days too. I feel twinges of guilt, but it passes as quickly as it came on. Thank you!

Juli, he won a prize for shooting the water in the clowns mouth! He was so excited when he won. You are in an area where you can take a few hours and see the most amazing things. I hope you take a few hours and head out to Horseshoe Dam and take some photos for me!!!!

Cynthia, life is such an amazing journey, all we need to do is learn to enjoy each and every moment as it comes along. Work or not.

Rene, good for you! It does sound like fun. And the fact you turned it all off, well.. that is amazing!

Pat, I never understood I am type-A. I thought I was just the opposite, live and learn! Just make it a roving reporter trip, that might help! That is what I did when I had to go to Maine for a few days.

George, it is hard for family though. I get that.

Andy, you are right, it is a labor of love! Life should be a vacation every day, I guess if we have the right attitude it is!

Navona, I think those fairs are just way to much fun, and the animals.. well, I just love them!

Ginny, thank you! I do love cows in case you didn't know that... any opportunity to stop and take their photos is ok by me!
