How To Help Lindenhurst NY Residents Devasted from Hurricane Sandy

There is helping, then there is crossing that line. Jackie has some very good tips and advice for those wanting to help, and a stern warning to those that want to gawk or even steal. I am so sorry to hear her brother is suffering through loss of this kind.

This advice is good for all the neighborhoods in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that have been hit hard.

And looters beware.... they are out looking for you.

Thank you Jackie for all you are doing.

how not to help lindenhurst ny residents How To Help Lindenhurst NY Residents Devastated from Hurricane Sandy

  • DO NOT drive down south of Montauk Highway just to see the devastation. If you go there, offer help like getting them something to eat, offer to do their laundry, give them garbage bags, work gloves, hot beverages. You get the idea.
  • DO NOT drive down with your pick-up truck and pick through the trash of these homeowners. The residents down there feel bad enough without you picking through their memories. I've already chased away a few people from my Brother's home and a friend's home and I will do it again.
  • DO NOT steal from these residents. The National Guard will catch you whether you come in by foot or by boat. The Suffolk County Police Department are flying helicopters above these neighborhoods with flood lights.

The "gawkers" are making homeowners feel like their privacy is being invaded because they know you are there to just look and not help. I know it's human nature & curiosity but they don't like it and I don't blame them. Please don't do it.

There have been robberies where people were coming in by boat and stealing valuables and electronics from the residents. I have seen quite a few signs that say: "Looters Will Be Shot!" They are not kidding.

So please, if you can't help, give the area residents privacy. They don't need to feel worse than they already do.

Andrea I hope that they catch everyone that is steeling from those that are hurting from this storm, and lock them up for a long time.
