What? You didn't get your Bridgewater Fair raffle tickets yet?

Bridgewater Country Fair65th Annual Bridgewater Country Fair, Bridgewater, CT August 19th - 21, 2016! The raffle tickets are just waiting for you!!!

Winning the grand prize would be fantastic, winning any of the other prizes would be great too! But why haven't you purchased your raffle tickets yet?

I was thinking the other day how important our Volunteer Fire Departments are. Supporting them is equally important. Oh, you don't live in Bridgewater, so there is no need? Well, I beg to differ! A fire on Bonnie Vu Lane in New Milford recently was a tragedy.  The house burned to the ground and the family lost all their possessions, but they do live to tell the story. As painful as it is, things are replaceable, people are not.

It could have been much, much worse. Thanks to not only the New Milford's Water Witch and Northville Fire Departments, but I would like to send out a big thank you to Bridgewater, Washington, and Brookfield Volunteer Fire Departments who also heeded the call. The wind was high that day and we are dry here, other homes are close by and oh my it could have been much, much worse. I had visions of sparks igniting one of the many hay lots that are also close by. We live close by, we could see and smell the smoke, the fire engines were whizzing by the house, tankers coming and going. It was scary even from where I live.

Winning a prize is great, supporting any of our local fire departments is even better! These are all volunteers that keep us safe. They do it because they want to do it, most have full time jobs in addition to all the responsibilities of being a volunteer fire person. This fair and raffle allows the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department the honor of being the only self supporting volunteer fire department in the state! Way to go BVFD!

So, how about it? Besides, the Bridgwater Country Fair is a great event, I know in my house we start thinking about next year as we are leaving the fair grounds! I am geared up to watch the pedal tractor pulls, the oxen pulls (my personal favorite) and of course my mouth is already wrapped around an ear of corn and a roast beef sandwich! And there is plenty more to see and do there.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like to live anywhere without the Fire Fighters. They deserve our support and most of them are so humble and giving.

Good morning Andrea. That is a pretty serious raffle for a worthwhile cause. I'm sure the result will be a good one.

Those pigs look a little skinny in that photo, Andrea. Are those racing pigs? You can tell I don't know much about county fairs but supporting a volunteer fire department is crucial. We have closed a station or two in Sacramento. In fact, I read the national average response time is 4 minutes and some of our fire departments fall short of that average.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents , supporting the fire departments are crucial. These people volunteer their time and are such an important part of our local communities.

I love the fair, and I don't know about those piggys, they were lean, mean running machines!
