Christmas tree lighting and The Grinch celebrating in New Milford 2016

New Milford CT Christmas trees on the greenIt's a big year for New Milford, we are celebrating 50 years of our Christmas trees on the green! A tradition started by New Milford resident Walter Shutte, and one we have all enjoyed over the years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Walter, and of course the United Methodist Men of the New Milford United Methodist Church in New Milford. They volunteer their time and talents, they cut down the trees for us and place them on the green. I know they make my holiday season every year! I would like to take a moment to express my own deep gratitude for their generosity and contribution to our town.

This year the tree lighting will be Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 5:30 pm. We sing, Santa is on the bandstand, it is great fun for all who attend.

There are quite a few events being hosted this weekend. In celebration of Small Business Saturday, the local shops are all decked out and awaiting your arrival into town.

AND... the big surprise, not only are we celebrating 50 years of our Christmas trees, we are celebrating THE GRINCH!

Here are a few things you can participate in to celebrate the kick off of the holiday season in New Milford on Saturday.

SHOP THE SMALL BUSINESSES IN TOWN, which goes without saying. Come and see all they have to offer, enjoy the ambiance, the good spirits and support our local businesses which help to make our Village Green the most beautiful in all of Connecticut!

RUN SANTA RUN, Harrybrook Park at 10:00 AM on Saturday. Kids are free to run/walk with Santa, all others are $25. Proceeds to benefit Harrybrook Park and Juvenile Diabetes. Don't forget to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots in order to have your child run free. Even if you don't have a child with you, bring a toy anyway! And dress for the event... an elf, a tree, an ornament, whatever you like!

FREE GRINCH MOVIE AT BANK STREET THEATER will be running The Grinch Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am. FREE!

HOLIDAY BAZAAR AT 65 BANK STREET, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday.

DR. SEUSS HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS will be read at The Book Nook on Bank Street, Saturday, 1:00 pm. (remember what a book is?)

CINDY LOU WHO LOOK ALIKE CONTEST, Joe's Hair Salon on Bank Street, 2:00 pm,

MAX LOOK ALIKE CONTEST, Barkery Boo'tique, Bank Street, 3:00 pm. (yeah, that one is for the dog in the family!)

And of course it ends with the tree lighting festivities and Santa on the bandstand at 5:30 pm!

My office went with the Grinch Theme for our window display this year, as did many others in town.

Hi Andrea - How delightful.  I think we will have a busy weekend in Westchester and Connecticut with tree lights and other events.  Those pictures of New Milford look great.

That top photo with the church and the lights is lovely, Andrea!  And any activity that involves the Grinch has to be a good one!

Andrea, I love your photos.  They look so New England smallish town!  Have a wonderful holiday.
